Common Trade Names: Invar 36, Nilo 6, Pernifer 6

Invar 36 is a nickel-iron, low expansion alloy that contains 36% nickel and possesses a rate of thermal expansion approximately one-tenth that of carbon steel. Alloy 36 maintains nearly constant dimensions over the range of normal atmospheric temperatures, and has a low coefficient of expansion from cryogenic temperatures to about 500¡ãF. This nickel iron alloy is tough, versatile and retains good strength at cryogenic temperatures.

Invar 36 (also known as Nilo, Nilvar, Permalloy D, FeNi36, and 64FeNi) is an nickel-iron alloy notable for its extremely low thermal expansion. Primary uses for Invar include laser and cryogenic components, tooling, dies, and any other application requiring high dimensional stability. Generally immediately available in most volumes, AE Alloys are available in machined shapes such as bar, ingot, ribbon, wire, shot, sheet, and foil. Ultra high purity and high purity forms also include metal powder, submicron powder and nanoscale, targets for thin film deposition, and pellets for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and physical vapor deposition (PVD) applications.
