Permalloy 80 is a specialized precision soft magnetic alloy, widely known by different designations worldwide: Alloy 80 (US standard), PC-80 (Japanese standard), Ni80 (European standard), and 79§¯§® (Russian standard), with the unified global grade UNS N14080. Unlike conventional structural alloys focused on strength and corrosion resistance, Permalloy 80 tubing is customized for precision electromagnetic performance. It can be highly magnetized in extremely weak magnetic fields and achieves nearly complete demagnetization after the magnetic field disappears, with minimal residual magnetism and hysteresis loss.

In the annealed state, it is very soft, with very low strength and hardness, but good plasticity. Its mechanical properties are negligible compared to its electromagnetic properties.

  • Complex forming process: Narrow hot-working temperature window prevents cracking; severe work hardening during cold drawing requires multiple intermediate annealing treatments for forming.
  • Definitive final annealing process: High-temperature long-time annealing under pure hydrogen or high vacuum environment relieves internal stress, optimizes grain structure, and activates optimal magnetic properties ¡ª the core process determining product quality.
  • Post-processing restrictions: Finished Permalloy 80 pipes cannot be welded, reheated at high temperature or severely cold-deformed. ZYTC Alloy recommends customers purchase finished-size annealed pipes to avoid performance attenuation caused by secondary processing.
