HyMu 50 (Permalloy 50, UNS N14080, W.Nr.1.3922, 1J50) Soft Magnetic Alloy Bar

ZYTC Alloy, a professional Chinese manufacturer and supplier of high‑performance precision soft‑magnetic alloys, provides premium HyMu 50 (Permalloy 50 / FeNi50 / 1J50) round bars. Also designated UNS N14080 and W.Nr.1.3922, this iron‑nickel soft‑magnetic alloy contains approximately 50 % nickel. It delivers high saturation magnetic induction and strong resistance against magnetic saturation, making it the preferred material for medium‑to‑high‑field magnetic core components where HyMu 80 would saturate easily.

Material Overview: HyMu 50 vs HyMu 80

HyMu 50 is widely compared with HyMu 80, another well‑known Permalloy grade. HyMu 80 (~80 % Ni) provides extremely high magnetic sensitivity, yet saturates under relatively low‑intensity magnetic fields. In contrast, HyMu 50 features far higher saturation magnetic induction, resisting saturation in strong magnetic environments. While HyMu 80 suits weak‑signal precision applications, HyMu 50 performs reliably for current transformer cores, high‑power transformer cores and other high‑flux working scenarios, with a favorable cost‑performance balance.

Applications

HyMu 50 alloy bars are extensively machined into magnetic‑circuit parts for electronic, power and industrial equipment:
  • Current transformer cores and high‑power transformer cores
  • Medium‑power transformer assemblies
  • Magnetic amplifier components
  • Electromagnetic clutch cores
  • Cost‑effective magnetic shielding enclosures (for non‑ultra‑high shielding requirements)
  • Relay cores and electromagnetic switching elements

Applicable Standards & Equivalent Grades

ZYTC Alloy supplies HyMu 50 complying with cross‑regional industry specifications:
  • UNS: N14080
  • W.Nr.: 1.3922 (DIN standard)
  • Chinese Grade: 1J50
  • Commercial Names: Permalloy 50, FeNi50, Alloy 4750

Product Forms & Delivery Conditions

Our primary offering is HyMu 50 round bar. Before order confirmation, our technical team will align key specifications including dimension, delivery condition and end‑use application.
Available Conditions:
  • Annealed (Soft): Recommended for most magnetic‑core applications. Ideal for heavy machining followed by customer‑performed heat‑treatment, or for projects requiring final annealing completed at ZYTC Alloy¡¯s facility prior to shipment. This is our standard delivery condition for bars.
  • Cold‑Drawn (Hard): Higher mechanical strength for structural parts without strict magnetic‑property requirements. Customers shall perform full annealing after machining to restore soft‑magnetic performance.
Dimension scope: Custom diameters and lengths per drawing. We support both stock sizes and non‑standard custom production.
Important Note: Final annealing is critical to unlock rated soft‑magnetic properties. If your facility lacks heat‑treatment capacity, please notify our sales team to arrange factory‑side final annealing before delivery.

Disclaimer: Actual magnetic performance varies significantly with bar diameter, furnace temperature uniformity and cooling rates. Process qualification testing is strongly recommended prior to mass‑production orders.
ZYTC Alloy Application Guidance: Select HyMu 80 for weak‑signal circuits requiring ultra‑high sensitivity. Choose HyMu 50 for moderate‑to‑strong magnetic fields, high‑current and high‑power environments where magnetic‑saturation resistance is critical.

Machining, Welding & Heat‑Treatment Guidance

All soft‑magnetic performance of HyMu 50 is developed by dedicated final annealing. Machining stress will distort magnetic‑domain structures, so final annealing after mechanical processing is mandatory to restore rated magnetic properties.
  • Machinability: Comparable to austenitic stainless steel. Less rapid work‑hardening than HyMu 80, which simplifies turning and drilling operations.
  • Hot Working: Wide feasible temperature window for hot forming.
  • Cold Working: Can achieve 80‑90 % deformation ratio in cold forming processes.
  • Welding: Welding is permissible, but re‑annealing after welding is mandatory. Welding heat damages local magnetic‑domain configuration; without post‑weld annealing, weld‑zone permeability will degrade heavily.

Price Reference & Order Notes

HyMu 50 costs more than standard stainless steel yet considerably less expensive than HyMu 80, benefited by its 30 % lower nickel content. Material cost is driven primarily by LME nickel price fluctuation, bar dimension, delivery condition and quality grade.
  • Custom‑processed products: USD 80‑100 / kg, MOQ 200 kg
  • Standard stock products: USD 40‑60 / kg, MOQ 100 kg
  • Standard products with minor secondary processing: USD 60‑80 / kg, MOQ 50 kg
Packaging and freight will be quoted case‑by‑case. All above figures serve only as market‑range estimates; final quotation depends on actual order specifications.

Sample Testing Recommendation

For R&D projects and critical magnetic‑circuit applications, ZYTC Alloy highly recommends sample evaluation before bulk purchase. Validate magnetic‑property test data on small‑batch samples first, then proceed with mass order placement once performance matches your technical requirements.
